Heya! Here are some notes I've picked up for any new Mac players.

Discussion (even if you're not a Mac user!) is very welcome, however I will avoid discussing game specific bugs here. Refer to Is This a Bug? and Bug Report Thread instead. Also, if you would like help with gameplay, we are happy to help in the Help Thread.

The quick guide below is most accurate for systems running macOS 11 Big Sur and later. However, the game supports ANY version of macOS that is Intel native, down to OS X 10.5 Leopard, if you dare :) . I will try to keep this post updated as the game develops, with it currently being up to date for Beta 2.

Basics

Your saved data is stored at '~/Library/Application Support/TKo/'.
Some in-game keybinds include function keys. To use these, you must hold the globe/Fn key before pressing the function key. If you would like to press the Fn keys without holding the globe/Fn key, you may toggle the setting in System Settings > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > Function Keys.

macOS Specific Quirks

As any seasoned macOS user knows all too well, Apple has taken many steps towards making their platform approachable for non-techies. For some, this is beneficial, as the OS nudges an oblivious user away from doing something "wrong", which include deleting important system files, installing malware, etc..
However, their implementation can come across as over-protective (or downright obtuse in some cases), such as treating any unsigned app as worst-case-scenario.

So, here are some of the particular quirks that affect Kemoverse Online:

""Kemoverse Online.app" Not Opened"

This is a common popup in any unsigned macOS application. This is Gatekeeper† telling the user the app they are trying to launch has not been scanned for malware by Apple.

No biggie, we can override this warning.
- Dismiss the popup (Click Done).
- Launch System Settings.
- Go to Privacy & Security.
- Scroll to the bottom.
- There should be a pane that says ""Kemoverse Online.app" was blocked to protect your Mac.". Click Open Anyway.

This will allow the game to launch. You will only need to do the steps above once, as macOS will remember that you trust the game.

APPLE SILICON SPECIFIC - "To use Intel-based apps, you will need to install Rosetta."

TKO is a x86-64 (otherwise known as Intel-based) game. Due to the architecture difference between traditional x86_64 desktop processors and Apple Silicon (which use ARM based processors), you will need to install Apple's translation layer. Do not worry about this, the game will run at near-native speeds regardless.

Performance and Tuning

Due to the extremely wide range of Mac hardware the game supports, it is impossible to give a singular definite set of settings for optimal performance.

However, from my experience running the game on both low and high end systems, I can recommend the following:
- The best rendering mode for now is GLES2. TKO does not use any GLES3 specific features (that I know of/have noticed).
- Sun shadows are quite taxing, I'd keep them off.
- Smooth bones are extremely satisfying to look at, but I'd recommend turning it off if you are running an earlier Intel system, or if many players are gathered in your area.
- TKo syncs its refresh rate with that of your screen (vsync), but the default FPS cap is 60. To change it, use the '/fpslimit <value>' command in chat. (Uses of this include when you are connected to a high refresh rate external display, or newer MacBooks with ProMotion displays.)
- When playing the story, I recommend playing offline. The game is faster without online assets.
The best places to experiment with settings are open areas like the campus, forest, or areas with many objects like the basement.

That's all for now! I may post miscellaneous silly stuff relating to Kemoverse on Mac in this thread, as well as geek out with anyone willing to.
